The Oil to Finish Well

The Oil to Finish Well

I had the plan.
I had the drive.
But the finish line felt like it was moving further away with every step.

The truth is, for many of us, starting is exciting. The ribbon cutting ceremony is glorious. The applause for pioneering something new sparks hope.

But finishing?

We are the all purpose glue in the fabric of society

Beauty in the Break

SHATTERED!
I remember it like it was yesterday. The melodious sound of ‘let the flowers bloom again’ could be heard throughout the community. My two sisters and I were playing in the living room when suddenly things took a turn.

With all of our running, a ceramic swan our mother had crafted and put on display, got knocked over.

I held the ceramic swan, a beauty once whole, now broken. My heart sank as the swan’s beautiful body was now in pieces in the hands of my sisters & I.

A wave of shame, guilt, and regret washed over me.
We tried to put the swan back together with some all purpose glue, but of course my mother found us out.

Investing in your dream

Champagne Taste & Mauby Pockets

There’s a peculiar silence that falls over a room when you’re weighing a dream against your budget.

I remember that silence.

It was just me, my laptop, my ARISE weekly planner, and the small reserve I set aside called “early RE-TYREment.”

Every mother knows the tug-of-war between sacrifice and strategy. But when you’re a mompreneur, you learn how to make both dance in rhythm.

While the Sharks chase equity deals and million-dollar valuations, I sat on the steps next to our Caribbean kitchen, nursing ideas and calculating courage.

Life Lessons from Track

Stay in Your Lane: Life Lessons from Track

Last week, I shared about the quiet strength of blooms pushing through the soil, determined to reach the light.

Recently, that metaphor came to life at the Stadium.

It was Sports Day for T.O.P.S and a vibrant tapestry of cheers, colorful jerseys, and the rhythmic sound of horns from supportive parents filled the atmosphere.

Amidst the excitement, my daughter stood poised at the starting line, flanked by 2 other girls taller and a bit older than her.

Her eyes, however, held no trace of intimidation, only determination.

Blossom & Bloom

Determined Blooms PUSH!

I’m no horticulturist, but I can wet plants.
And apparently, sometimes, that’s enough🙃

One of the plants I inherited is this potted plant you see featured.

At first glance, it looked like a prop from the Final Destination movie: brown, brittle, and about to die.

My mother called it a ‘Nazareth Plant.’

Because looking at it, you think really, can anything good come from it?

I met an angel at a spa

The Day I Met an Angel

We stepped into Glorious Bodies Glorious Minds (GBGM)… and that’s when it happened.

I met an angel 😇

…okay, not a literal angel — but it was definitely a heavenly moment.

We were greeted by a warm, welcoming smile, and my friend was gently escorted to the room where she’d receive her massage.

Then came the unexpected question.

Why Failing That Exam Was the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me

I remember walking through university feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders, wondering how I became such a failure.

It was a Thursday evening, I remember because that was the day IVCF(Intervarsity Christian Fellowship) would meet. I sat in the undercroft contemplating if I should make the effort to go to the meeting.

‘I remember struggling in this course and I had to do a re-sit. I studied hard, and prayed & fasted, and I’m here to testify that I got an A! God really came through for me.’

It seemed every week I heard these triumphant stories.
But that was not my story.

Lessons Over Lattes: 5 Real Talks from My Mompreneur Journey

“Do you know that humans have the ability to adapt to their environments? Sometimes when you first enter a new space it can be shocking, uncomfortable and even a bit painful to adjust to a change.”

“Muummmyyy I caaaann’t,” she responded in a sing-song tone.

I persisted. “The thing is, if you fully immerse yourself in the experience, with a mindset that you can handle it, you’d find that it may not be as bad as it was the first time when you retreated.” I gently immersed her feet in the foot spa and held it there for 3 seconds.

“Now be honest, is it burning you? Is it really that hot?”

BIG Hair, Don’t Care!

Permit me a moment to walk you down memory lane.
When Jason and I found out we were having a girl, my heart soared. The Lord had already whispered her name to me in a dream. So naturally, my “dream girl” needed dream-worthy lashes and luscious hair.
I laid hands on my belly and prayed, “God, I don’t want just ‘late-for-school’ hair—I want her hair to be thick, healthy, long—the kind that flows down her back like a royal veil.”
Heaven answered.
